Galatians at SBL 2009

The SBL 2009 preliminary program book for this year’s meeting to be held in New Orleans from November 21 – November 24 has been posted. It is a rich year for presentations related to Galatians. An entire session will be devoted to discussing Hans Dieter Betz’s Commentary on Galatians which was published 30 years ago. Betz’s commentary emphasises Paul’s use of rhetoric, something which is still essential.  Listed below are all of the currently listed Galatians presentations with the session title in bold.

  1. Rumor has it that those who post links to the SBL program before it is officially public will be banned from future participation in the meeting. Best check to be sure it is OK to put up these links.

    • Thanks for the warning Toad. I guess there won’t be many people at this year’s meeting because once SBL posted the preliminary schedule it was all over the blogs. One would think that posting it online would mean that it has been officially posted…

  2. Thomas, I agree with you that posting it online means it has been officially posted. Nevertheless, I did remove the extract I had posted on my blog,, when I realized that SBL took offense, since I strive to have good relations with the SBL.

    • I wasn’t aware that SBL took offense. I don’t suppose that Mr. Toad Rumours is an official representative of the SBL… It seems to be generating a lot of interest, that’s for sure.
