The text of Galatians isn’t particularly interesting to textual critics as there are few meaningful issues with the text and nothing that serves as a “crux” that brings enjoyment in debating. However, this month over at Evangelical Textual Criticism there have been a few discussions:

Nijay Gupta has a good review of De Boer’s commentary on his blog: http://nijaygupta.wordpress.com/2011/10/24/m-c-de-boers-galatians-commentary-review/. On the whole he finds it useful for historical critical work and similar to Martyn in content.

Review of Thomas R. Schreiner’s commentary available

David Luckensmeyer of Australian Catholic University has reviewed Schreiner’s commentary and you can read all about it on bookreviews.org: http://www.bookreviews.org/pdf/7879_8605.pdf

This review is most concerned with the physical layout of the commentary and editorial issues and secondly with critiquing with Schreiner’s Baptist presuppositions. In summary “Schreiner offers a reasonable analysis of most verses …. it is the ideological tendencies of the author that mar an otherwise very readable commentary on Galatians.” One is left to conclude that conservatives will love this commentary whilst others will find it lacking.

New Commentaries on Galatians

Amazon has become such a cesspool of public domain reprints and kindle releases that it has become near impossible to see when new books on Galatians have been released. However, there is some good news for those who have been waiting patiently for new commentaries on Galatians. Now available is Martinus C. De Boer’s volume in the NTL.
